To anyone in Huntsville, the one we saw last night was at the Drake & Parkway Wal-Mart if you want to see for yourself. Pick it up, shake it, rattle it, whatever it takes to get the thing to make noise. Not all of the dolls have the same "phrase" to their cooing, so it's probably not *every* doll, but I do know that at the Drake Wal-Mart, there were four of them saying it. Oh, and there are three cycles of their "phrases", so it may not be on every time it "says" something.
K-Mart has taken them off the shelves, it seems, and Target has them but has apparently ordered all new stock, because none of those dolls have the same "phrases" to their cooing. Just in case you want to avoid a trip to the store, here's a YouTube thingie with exactly what I heard (I know the video is sideways...it's clear audio I was looking for when I did the search for a clip--it's not mine, BTW): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRXKkc3fqd0

how weird is that???
I didn't know if to laugh hysterically or cry...
but maybe the doll "says" 'Islam is a fight'?!? (Those plastic babies don't talk clearly.)
John hadn't heard about it. So I didn't tell him what it "says". He listened to it a dozen times or more and heard nothing. He said he just heard baby sounds. I kept played it 3 or 4 more times on a loop with it saying it over and over, he still heard nothing but cooing. As soon as I told him what it was saying, he then heard it plain as day. Maybe there is something to the power of suggestion but it's still really creepy and we won't be buying one of those dolls!
No joke! Then again, maybe it's a "mom" thing and we're just way over-sensitive?
Like you I had heard about these dolls and thought it must just be people over-reacting. (I remember when my oldest son was was a baby and people said said that the red teletubby was saying a bad word, I never heard it) That video, along with several others I watched just to be sure, made it sound pretty clear that the doll is not cooing incoherently and saying "mama". Wow, I am glad to have all boys.
